A calm interlude in the chaotic Medina
Last November, I could explore some Moroccan cities which felt like stepping into an open-world video game. Colorful buildings hiding luxurious riads, bustling streets with cinematic scenes in a sepia-toned atmosphere, wandering silhouettes in the Medina.. Its aesthetics and energy create a mystical and timeless ambiance.
On the Atlantic coast, the splendid city of Essaouira seems to offer a soft and serene life, still disrupted by the dominating trade winds. To truly appreciate its charm, one must rise early, wander the quiet blue streets, and join the locals at dawn by the ocean, contemplative as they gaze at the few ships navigating the fierce winds.
Just a short drive inland, the Agafay Desert and the Atlas Mountains, historical lands of the Berbers, await. Then comes Marrakech, a city opposite to Essaouira, never sleeping, alive day and night with its souks, artisans, and perpetual encounters in the orange alleys of the Medina.
